Hip Hop Matters ( pg.1-29 )

Hip Hop Matters is a book all about the type of music that people love to hear, including myself. Hip Hop is originated in the streets of New York. Hip Hop came from street thugs just throwing down words on how they fel ro describe things and throwing a beat to it. The first official record company was called Sugar Hill Records, and they recruited men who work in restaurants and worked in the corners. These men were not just picked up to be picked up, they chosen because tnhey were seen to have some enourmous amount of talent. Most of the upcoming artist went through Sugar Hill Records so that they can be known around the New York cities, but they also did some radio airs of their song, and became known all over the place. A well known Hip Hop artist is called Afrika Bambaataa. Bambaataa was known for the movement and for the upcoming of hip hop the most.

" What began in basements, on street corners, in public parks, and throughout the still of the night would furnish young people fertile spaces for crafting new identities, explosive art forms, and later, whole industries"(Watkins9). This quote really catches my eye because i could imagine how hip hop began and how it has grown into the type of art that we listent to today.

The Haunting of Hill House (p.24-157)

OOOO man, its been a while since I've written something on this blog. A lot of time, and whole lot of reading. Eleanor was the first to get to the Hill House and she met the man, who was basically one of the housekeepers. He talked to Eleanor with such voice that could scare anyone and it even made Eleanor double think about going inside the house in the first place. Inside the house theres another housekeeper, Theodora. She is married to Dudley, the man who was scaring Eleanor outside before going inside. Theodora and Dudley are the only people who would dare stay in that house until Dr. Montague called the operation and brought people with him to the mission. It's scary how Dr. Montague and the other discover how a young girl killed herself in the house because of love. This shocked Eleanor because she lost someone the same way. As time goes by, Dr. Montague doesn't see as much as he expected. He see's alot of Theodora and Dudley and hearing about their stories, until one day Eleanor seen something written over Theodoras bed in shaky paper saying, "Come home Eleanor...Come home"(Jackson155). Eleanor says she was ready this time to actually face this spirit that is haunting her around.

"This time I am ready...you'd better get her out of here; bring her to my room"(Jackson155). This quote caught my attention because Eleanor is determined and knows that she cannot let this oppertunity pass by her. She is going to face this spirit and she is going to do it alone without no one else their. She is going to face her fears to these spirits once and for all.

The Hauting of Hill House (p.11-24)

Ok so another week of reading my new ROAR book, The Haunting of Hill House. Dr. Montague is looking for his crew to go into the haunted house. He adds someone who has some experience with paranormals and phenomenons. Eleanor, a girl whos family was haunted by ghost. He has the future owner of the haunted house, Luke. He also had his assistant to acompany him. On their way to the hill house they had storys about ttheir past experiences or what they expected to see and Dr. Montague thought that he has chosen the best team because they consist of many different types of attributes.

"There was a first time for everything, Eleanor told herself"(Jackson12). I can completely agree with Eleanor in this quote because I do believe that theres a first time for everything. Sometimes people may think that something will never happen to them but when it comes down to it, whatever they denied ends up happening to them.

The Hauting of Hill House (p.1-11)

Well hey, I'm now reading a new book called the The Haunting of Hill House, by Shirley Jackson. This terms ROAR book theme is book into movie. This book is about horror, so it should scare me A LOT, but i highly doubt it cause I'm not easily scared. So far my reading has been the introduction. I've found out the main goal in the book and that is that Dr. Montague is looking for proof of physic phenomenons or paranormal events. He hires a certain group to come along with him and look at the hill House to find the information that he needs. Some of his groups members are pretty weird but helpful because they have all experienced some physic phenomenon or have the same interest as Dr. Montague.

"Within, walls continued upright, bricks met neatly, floors were firm, and doors were sensibly shit; silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House, and whatever walked there, walked alone"(Jackson 3). This quote really stood out to me because I can completely visualize what she is describing the house as and when it says that whatever walked in there, walked alone, can really creep someone out by thinking that theres something dead but walking in their by itself.

The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao ( p.148-186 )

OK, my bad but i didn't finish my book before my last post. Crazy time at school and managing my time at home. BUT it was still a very sad part of my reading this time around. This gangster got Beli pregnant, andthen decides to say he is married. NOW, he decides to drive with Beli east, while his boys are abusing Beli in the back seat =-O. They was harrasing her, andthen they were hitting her and abusing her like if she was a slave. When they actually got out the car, they beat her in the floor and left her there, but then she was taken to the hospital where she was later told that she had lost her baby. It was a bad hit to Beli because she wanted the baby so much that when she was getting hit she was actually trying to block all hits that went to her stomach. NOW, I also got into seeing how Oscar grew up. He was them type of boys who wanted to have sex with his girlsfriends a lot but they never gave him anything. His ways got him into gang problems and had to live up to a alot of violence.

"My baby, Beli wept. Mi hijo precioso. Hypathia your baby is dead"(Diaz149). I chose this quote because this moment was a big downfall in Belis life. She just lost her child, boyfriend and moms trust. I can relate to this in someway because my aunt lost a child once because of her ex hitting her.

The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao ( p.105-148 )

Weird reading to tell you guys about. So I am still reading about Oscar's mom, Beli, and how HOT she still sounds during her time in DR when she was a teenager. So, she still has the BIG crush on Jack Pujols but she is also experimenting new "boys". She is looking at gangster in DR, and now doesn't want to go to college anymore and she wants to be a gangsters girlfriend the rest of her life. Her mother, La inca, Oscar's Grandmother, is saying that she is cursed with fuku because she is making every bad decision there can be and she replys by disagreeing and staying with the gangster and ooo man did it come back to bite her in the butt. She got PREGNANT to this random person and now is depending on him to help her with the kid. BUT WAIT THERES MOREEE, the gangster is MARRIED and she found out one day while they were laying down in a MOTEL.

"It was La Inca who saw it first. Well, you fianlly did it. You're pregnant"(Diaz136). I chose this quote for the faact that she was telling her the whole way through that she was going to do something very stupid because of the curse that their family has. La Inca is saying this like it was a accomplishment that Beli has done by getting pregnant but someone her mother told her was no good and that all he wanted to have sex.

The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao ( p.87-105 )

MAN, I am SORRY for such a short reading span from the last post to this one but no matter how much reading I do theres always A LOT to write about because of all the action thats going on. So, I am still reading in the time period of his mothers high school year. His mom, Beli, was a DORKY little dork at school with a HUGE crush on the most handsome boy in her school. His name was Jack Pujols, and he was the biggest player in the school and Beli knew that he was but she didnt care. Beli's crush got very BIG, and so did many other things on Beli's body. It was like overnight, but Beli's body grew tremondously, she had 35 DDD breasts, and a "culo" that was enormous. All these factors are making jack notice her more, he noticed her so much that she actually lost it to HIM. Many comparisons between the mother and his sister.

"I will be married to a handsome wealthy man. I will also be a doctor with my own hospital that I will name after Trujillo"(Diaz97). When Beli said this I immediately thought about every Dominican women dreams, it's always a dream that they have. They want to be wealthy with money, and they will name something after the great Dominican Leader, Trujillo.
