Hip Hop Matters ( pg.1-29 )

Hip Hop Matters is a book all about the type of music that people love to hear, including myself. Hip Hop is originated in the streets of New York. Hip Hop came from street thugs just throwing down words on how they fel ro describe things and throwing a beat to it. The first official record company was called Sugar Hill Records, and they recruited men who work in restaurants and worked in the corners. These men were not just picked up to be picked up, they chosen because tnhey were seen to have some enourmous amount of talent. Most of the upcoming artist went through Sugar Hill Records so that they can be known around the New York cities, but they also did some radio airs of their song, and became known all over the place. A well known Hip Hop artist is called Afrika Bambaataa. Bambaataa was known for the movement and for the upcoming of hip hop the most.

" What began in basements, on street corners, in public parks, and throughout the still of the night would furnish young people fertile spaces for crafting new identities, explosive art forms, and later, whole industries"(Watkins9). This quote really catches my eye because i could imagine how hip hop began and how it has grown into the type of art that we listent to today.
