My reading got very interesting and very crazy over the past week. Oscar’s sister, Lola, went through so much with her mother. Her mom was diagnosed with cancer and Lola really didn’t CARE! =O. She would get into BIG arguments with her mom and scream and hit her even with cancer. Her mom, Beli, didn’t make things easier for herself either. She would call Lola nasty names in Spanish, she would deny sometimes that she was her mother and it got very UGLY. Lola ran away from home with some boyfriend she had. She ended up losing her VIRGINITY to him, without even wanting too, the moment took her. Ever since that, she has been miserable. She got a job selling hotdogs on the beach, and he wasn’t doing much either. She got SO miserable that she actually called her house and Oscar picked up and she said “I MISS YOU” to Oscar, which is WEIRD and she asked him to meet her somewhere with all the money her mother has saved. When she got there, Oscar was there waiting for her and she gave him a big hug, but then behind him, she seen her mother, her aunt and uncle. She began to run away, AGAIN. Her mom, with cancer tricked her to coming back and sent her away to the Dominican Republic with her grandmother for almost a year.
“Abuela snorted. Guapa soy yo. Your mother was a diosa. But so cabeza dura. When she was your age we never got along” (diaz75). I Chose this quote for the purpose of the comparison that her and her mother had. The quote says how her mom was VERY good looking but with her beauty came much aggravation. She would always be arguing with her mom and they would not get along.
